The Bulge in Art History | Andy Warhol’s Cover for Sticky Fingers

The Rolling Stones’ 1971 Sticky Fingers album cover with working zipper was Andy Warhol's idea. Billy Name took the photograph. John Pasche, a young Brit just graduated from the Royal College of Art, designed the, um, package.

It's not Mick in the pictures as many fans assumed at the time. And it's not Joe Dallesandro either, despite the popular and persistent rumor.

Sticky Fingers was the first release on Mick & Keith's own Rolling Stones Records and the first LP cover they had creative control over. The Stones wisely handed the reins to Warhol.

John Pasche also designed the Stones' iconic logo (1970)
